About Catacats
Hi, I’m Rose, the human behind Catacats.
Cats have always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was two years old, my mother got a mama cat and her one kitten, and I proudly named them Double-Double-Cat-Cat and Little-Kitty-Fat-Cat. That was the beginning of my cat education.
At age 5, she got me a part Maine Coon kitten we named Kitta, who, to this day, has shaped my understanding of cats more than any other. He had no idea that he was a cat. He thought he was a person, blurring the line between the two species, and he gave me profound insights into cat nature over the course of his 17-year life. People who encountered him decades ago still remember him well.

My mother loved cats, and they loved her too. She taught me that cats aren’t just easy pets. They are smart, sensitive, and complex animals who do best when we truly see and respect them.
That belief is the foundation of Catacats.
A lifetime with cats and still learning
Over the years, I’ve met cats in many ways: rescues, strays, adoptions, and kittens from litters. Each cat taught me something new about behavior, health, trust, boundaries, and the quiet ways that they communicate.
Like many cat owners, I made mistakes at first. But I paid attention, watched, learned, and started asking better questions. Over time, I saw how much thoughtful caring for cats can really improve their lives, and ours, too.
My curiosity, along with my love of research, eventually led me to create Catacats.
How my career has helped
Catacats isn’t about trends or one-size-fits-all advice. It’s about sharing informed, caring, and practical guidance that cat owners can use.
Cats deserve the same careful attention we expect in human healthcare: prevention, observation, and respect for their individuality. It is important to understand what’s normal and what isn’t; what helps their health and well-being, and what doesn’t. Cat care requires a subtle eye because they are masters at hiding their pain.
For almost 20 years, I’ve worked in healthcare, focusing on cardiac diagnostics, relying on precision, pattern recognition, and critical thinking. I use evidence over opinion to spot small changes and see how things connect. I have learned the importance of prevention and how to watch for early warning signs.
I bring that same mindset to advocating for cats.
Meet PeterBoo 🐾
These days, my teacher-in-residence is PeterBoo, a large, very intelligent, and exceptionally well-behaved Maine Coon gentleman.
He is living his best life, and that’s no accident. He benefits from everything I’ve learned about cats over almost 70 years.
I make sure his diet is just right. In part, he eats high-quality, high-protein, low-carb, low-filler wet canned food, and I prepare the rest using a balanced, carefully researched recipe. He gets daily playtime and has choices, because cats need to feel in control.
I set up our home for his needs: window views to watch the world, a tall sturdy cat tree to survey his space, tunnels for play, and a cozy wool cave for quiet time. I rotate his toys and check them for safety. Nap time is peaceful, and play time is important because cats need to use their instincts daily.

What we have now means a lot to me: a routine built on trust, kindness, and respect. He brings healing to my life, and I try to help him adjust to living indoors, even though, by nature, he’s an ancient natural hunter. I know I ask a lot of him to fit into my world, and I always remember that.
